Capture Pokémon at the Yolo County Library

(Woodland, CA) – Do you play Pokémon Go? Are you looking for PokéGyms, PokéStops or Pokémon to catch? Players of all ages are welcome to visit any of the Yolo County Library’s eight branches to find a variety of Pokémon.

Explore Yolo County’s towns and cities in which Yolo County Library branches reside while capturing Pokémon of all shapes and sizes and filling up the Pokédex. Load up on supplies by visiting the various PokéStops at the branches to collect more Poké Balls, razz berries, potions or eggs. Set a lure, seize the PokéGym or check out the library’s collection of Pokémon materials. All Yolo County Library branches are air-conditioned and have staff ready to share in the excitement and fun.

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of August at Yolo County’s Winters Community Library, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters:

• August 3: Puppet Show Theater, 2:00 p.m. All are welcome to enjoy a lively puppet show performed by UC Davis’ veterinary school students. After the show, audience members can meet and greet the actors and hear testimonials of what it takes to get into the UC Davis School of Veterinary Medicine.

• August 8: Special Story Time: Winters Police Department, 10:30 a.m. Join the library for this special story time where a police officer will read stories to children and families. It’s a great opportunity for audience members to meet local police officers.

• Ends August 15: The Yolo County Library’s Summer Reading Program. Sign up for this program before it ends August 15! All ages are welcome to sign up online or at their local library for prize drawings, program information and reading challenges.

• August 2: Afternoon Movie, 1:30 p.m. Children and families are invited to view a family friendly (rated G or PG) movie. For movie title call: (530) 787-3426.

• August 9: Dilly Dally the Clown, 1:30 p.m. Enjoy family fun with this award-winning balloon twister.

• August 11: Olympic Game Crafts, 1:30 p.m. Create an Olympic visor and summer games torch.

The following special programs will be held during the month of July at Yolo County’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento:

July 2 and 16: IT Consultant by Appointment Only, 2:00 p.m. Participants can ask questions and bring their laptops or mobile devices. Samples of Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Apple devices will be on hand. Time slots are limited so make a 15 minute appointment in English or Spanish at the information desk or by telephone at (916) 375-6465.

July 5: Sports-Themed Activity Sheets, 11:00 a.m. Children ages 6-12 and their parents or caretakers are invited to participate in sports-themed activity sheets like crosswords and word searches. Turn in your finished activity sheet to be entered to win a prize. All supplies provided by the library.

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of July at Yolo County’s Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis:

• July 10 & 24: Reducing Stress with Tai Chi, 12:15 p.m. Learn relaxing meditative exercises in this beginner Tai Chi class based on Chinese martial arts. All ages are welcome.

• July 16: Food Olympics, 2:00 p.m. Try our Brazilian-inspired menu to celebrate the Summer Olympics.

• July 16: Origami Club, 2:00 p.m. Join the Davis origami group and learn to fold. Open to all ages and abilities.

• July 28: Davis Library Book Group, 7:00 p.m. Join us for a discussion of Graeme Simsion’s The Rosie Project and distribution of the group’s next book, Robert Crais’ Suspect.

• June 1-August 15: Yolo County Library’s Summer Reading Program. All ages are welcome to sign up online or at your local library to receive a free prize and to enter into drawings by attending programs and completing reading challenges.

• July 7: Food Olympics at the Library, 6:00 p.m. Join us in celebrating Brazil as the location for the Summer Olympics 2016 by tasting a gold medal Brazilian-inspired menu!

• July 12 and July 26: Mini Maker Camp, 1:30 p.m. This hands-on family fun program will involve science, technology, engineering, art and math.

Yolo County Library’s summer reading program update

Yolo County Library’s summer reading program update

The Yolo County Library’s Summer Reading Program is off to a great start with more than 3,365 sign ups since the June 1 kick-off. The program continues through August 15 and all are welcome to sign up online or in person at their local Yolo County Library branch.

Participants will receive a ticket for prizes and a free gift. In addition, those who read five books will receive a book full of puzzles, games or coloring pages, and a ticket for finishing prizes, generously donated by the various Friends of the Library groups. Children, ages 0-12, will also receive a free pizza coupon to Round Table Pizza. New to the Summer Reading Program, participants will now receive an additional prize ticket for every completed reading log they turn in. Prizes, such as the free book or pizza coupon, will remain the same for the first reading log.
