Change in schedule at the Winters Community Library

(Woodland, CA) – The Winters Community Library, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters, will revert to the following School Break Schedule from June 7 through August 20:

• Mondays and Wednesdays: 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

• Tuesday and Thursdays: 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.

• Fridays and Saturdays: 1:00 pm. To 5:00 p.m.

• Sundays: Closed

June programs at the Winters Community Library

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of June at Yolo County’s Winters Community Library, located at 708 Railroad Avenue in Winters:

• June 6, 13, 20 and 27: Family Story Time, 10:30 a.m. A gentle and fun introduction to literacy for children ages 0-5 through stories, songs and finger-plays. Stay for play and social time after the program! Topics this month include oceans, dancing, opposites and picnics.

• June 9: Cristina Gonzalez’s ‘Farewell’ Bilingual Story Time and Party, 6:30 p.m. Come say goodbye to Cristina, a stellar champion of customer service, story time and outreach, as she begins her new journey with the Gibson Child Development Center! Join us for her final bilingual story time as she amazes, enthralls and educates children and families on early literacy and engagement.

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of June at Yolo County’s Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis:

• June 11: Kick-Off Party in the Park, 1:00 p.m. Come celebrate the arrival of the Summer Reading Program with a kick-off party in the park. Participants who sign up receive a free gift.

• June 14: Python Ron’s Reptile Kingdom, 1:00 p.m. See the amazing creatures that travel with Python Ron! Learn about lizards and make friends with an 18-foot-long python.

• June 21: Catch a Beat! 1:00 p.m. Tina Rogers presents a lively movement program incorporating a variety of music and dance styles.

• June 28: Fit to Sing, 1:00 p.m. This sing-along, move-along concert will get your heart pumping.

The following ongoing programs continue in June:

• Mother Goose on the Loose: Tuesdays at 10:15 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

Iron Road Exhibit comes to the Davis Branch Library in June

(Woodland, CA) – From June 3 - 30, The Chinese and the Iron Road: Building the Transcontinental exhibit will be displayed at Yolo County’s Mary L. Stephens Davis Branch Library, located at 315 E. 14th Street in Davis. Participants will learn about the Chinese railroad workers who were instrumental in building the first transcontinental railroad in the United States. Produced by the Chinese Historical Society of America Museum and the Chinese Railroad Workers in North America Project at Stanford University, this exhibit utilizes graphic panels to feature historical and contemporary photos, illustrations, stories of worker descendants and bilingual Chinese/English text written by railroad workers to tell this fascinating history.

(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of June at Yolo County’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento:

• June 1: Summer Reading Program Kick-off Celebration, 4:00 p.m. Everyone is invited to come play games, sign up for the 2016 Summer Reading Program and enter for a chance to win prizes.

• June 7: Sports Themed Coloring Pages, 11:00 a.m. Kids ages 6-12 and their parents and caretakers are invited to come to the library and participate in sports-themed coloring. The best coloring page will win a prize! All supplies will be provided by the library.

• June 9 and 23: All Things String, 6:00 p.m. This crafting circle is for anyone who knits, crochets, embroiders or enjoys fiber art. Bring your current project or start something new.

(Woodland, CA) – All are welcome to participate in the following special programs held during the month of June at Yolo County’s Esparto Regional Library, located at 17065 Yolo Avenue in Esparto:

• June 1 - August 15: Yolo County Library’s Summer Reading Program. Everyone is welcome to sign up for this fun program that lasts all summer long. Receive a free gift for signing up and raffle tickets for cool prizes after reading five books. Participants can sign up online or at their local Yolo County Library branch.

• June 9: Afternoon Movie, 3:00 p.m. Children and families are invited to view a family-friendly (rated G or PG) movie. For movie title call: (530) 787-3426.

• June 21: Kenn Adams’ Adventure Theater: The Myth – Adventures of Melanie Moe! 2:00 p.m. Participate in this interactive theater experience for both children and families.

West Sacramento Library receives ScholarShare prize

West Sacramento Library receives ScholarShare prize

(Woodland, CA) – Yolo County’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento, has received a $500 matching prize from ScholarShare, California’s 529 College Savings Plan.

Last year, ScholarShare partnered with California public libraries to conduct drawings that gave participants, ages 18 and under, a chance to win $500 in the statewide Summer Reading Program. More than 790,000 Californians of all ages signed up at their local library for the summer reading program. Earlier this month, ScholarShare announced the 40 winners; one from each of California’s senatorial districts. ScholarShare also gave a matching $500 prize to each winner’s local library, which in the 6th Senatorial District, benefitted the Arthur F. Turner Community Library.
