Celebrate America Recycles Day by Recycling Your Used Oil Filters

On Saturday, November 16, the Yolo County Department of Planning & Public Works’ Division of Integrated Waste Management and the cities of Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Winters will host a free Used Oil Filter Exchange Event, joining thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

With the help of O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone stores throughout Yolo County, and the NAPA Auto Parts store in Winters, local government recycling coordinators are partnering to remind do-it-yourself vehicle oil changers of the importance of recycling by hosting the November 16 used oil filter exchange event.  Residents of Yolo County can receive a free oil filter by bringing in their used one for recycling.  There is a limit of two filters per resident that can be exchanged.

Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811 or 916-264-7839.

City asks residents to conserve water

City asks residents to conserve water

The light spring rains, early spring runoff, and intense summer heat have created a water shortage (drought) condition in West Sac and throughout Northern California, said West Sacramento water conservation spokeswoman Paulina Rosenthal in a press release July 22.

"Due to these conditions, the City of West Sacramento is focused on improving water conditions this summer and protecting its water supplies in 2014," she said.  "The City is requesting a Stage 2 Water Conservation effort and encourages residents to irrigate lawns and gardens with less water and during nighttime hours only; to repair leaks in indoor and outdoor plumbing, and to be generally diligent about preserving this precious resource."

Residents and businesses are urged to refrain from the following activities:
