Costumed docents will tell romantic tales about the roses, love found in the wagon trains and early pioneer days, and love lost on Saturday, April 19th at 6:30pm - 8:00,

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. The mission of the OCCC is to join hands with the community to restore, beautify, preserve, and protect the Historic City Cemetery, while maintaining access by descendants of the deceased, and to provide educational services to all visitors to the Historic City Cemetery of Sacramento.

The dice were not the only thing loaded in the old west.  From pharmacies to opium dens, many California pioneers were under the influence.  Join us on April 5th, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. for an uncut dose of history.

Celebrate America Recycles Day by Recycling Your Used Oil Filters

On Saturday, November 16, the Yolo County Department of Planning & Public Works’ Division of Integrated Waste Management and the cities of Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Winters will host a free Used Oil Filter Exchange Event, joining thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States. 

With the help of O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone stores throughout Yolo County, and the NAPA Auto Parts store in Winters, local government recycling coordinators are partnering to remind do-it-yourself vehicle oil changers of the importance of recycling by hosting the November 16 used oil filter exchange event.  Residents of Yolo County can receive a free oil filter by bringing in their used one for recycling.  There is a limit of two filters per resident that can be exchanged.

Love roses?

Love roses or just working with plants but have no flower bed or garden? Historic City Cemetery (10th & Broadway in Sacramento) invites West Sac residents to help tidy up its renowned heirloom rose garden Aug. 5.

Old City Cemetery spokesman Dennis Gunvalson says volunteers are needed to tidy up the treasured rose garden at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, first meeting at the cemetery's 10th Street gate.

The cemetery has many notables, both people and plants, and the rose garden has lovely vintage varieties.

City asks residents to conserve water

City asks residents to conserve water

The light spring rains, early spring runoff, and intense summer heat have created a water shortage (drought) condition in West Sac and throughout Northern California, said West Sacramento water conservation spokeswoman Paulina Rosenthal in a press release July 22.

"Due to these conditions, the City of West Sacramento is focused on improving water conditions this summer and protecting its water supplies in 2014," she said.  "The City is requesting a Stage 2 Water Conservation effort and encourages residents to irrigate lawns and gardens with less water and during nighttime hours only; to repair leaks in indoor and outdoor plumbing, and to be generally diligent about preserving this precious resource."
