Join Historic Rose Garden docent Judy Eitzen and Hamilton Square Perennial Plant Garden docent Leslie Hurlburt as they show you late blooms, brilliant foliage and a variety of colorful rose hips (fruit) in our pioneer garden cemetery. It will be full of birds and color ful plants, a place where gardens grace graves, time stands still and history lives. Meet inside the front gate. (Rain cancels event). Come join a one hour guided tour of the Hamilton Square Garden in the beautiful Historic City Cemetery. With 800 plus unusual Mediterranean perennial plants the garden has drought tolerant color all year long. Meet at the tenth street gate. Deadheading at daybreak

We will teach you how to deadhead spent blooms from the rosebushes and how tidying up the garden encourages repeat blooming of the roses in the Historic Rose Garden. If possible bring your own gloves and tools, but we will also provide tools if you need them. Light refreshments of coffee and pastries will be served. Late risers welcome! Rose propagation class

Rose propagation class

Historic Rose Garden volunteer propagators will conduct a hands-on rose propagation workshop to teach participants how to select the best plant material, prepare the cuttings and root them using the “terrarium” approach. Workshop participants will have the opportunity to take and stick a few cuttings of their own to take home with them. The class is free but donations are gratefully accepted and help support rose garden operations.
