Photography in Sacramento

Saturday, November 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. Standing on J Street during the latter part of the 19th century, it seemed you could throw a rock in any direction and hit a photography studio. On this interactive tour we will be delving into the lives of local photographers and their subjects. We’re asking for shutterbugs of all levels to participate. Working together, we will have an album on Facebook dedicated to this tour and everyone’s perspective of some of the most beautiful works of art that the cemetery has to offer. Bring your Point-and-Shoot, DSLR, or cell phone and get ready to have some fun!

The cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento. Meet at the Tenth Street gate. There is free street parking on surrounding streets. Tours are free; however, donations are appreciated and benefit cemetery preservation. For more information, call 916-448-0811.

Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day

Everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's Day

Saturday, March 17, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. Are you ready to channel your inner leprechaun and learn about the early Irish in Sacramento? The Irish were the largest foreign born element here from 1850-1890, and each of them had a gift of gab and many stories to share. Join us to hear these stories of scoundrels, entrepreneurs, rebels, scalawags, and an occasional soiled dove just trying to make a living, and be prepared to hear a corny Irish joke or two. Everyone is Irish today! Sacramento Historic City Cemetery, 1000 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95818. For more info, call (916) 448-0811.

Mausoleums

Mausoleums

Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. The Mausoleum at Halicarnassus was one of the seven wonders of the ancient world. We don’t have anything exactly like that, but we do have some very special mausoleums at the Historic City Cemetery. Join us for a rare glimpse of the architecture, the stories and the secrets that hide inside these magnificent monuments to Sacramento's golden age. Since we don’t have permission from the owners and due to the fragility of the monuments, we won’t be able to go inside them.

The Sacramento Historic City Cemetery is located at 1000 Broadway, Sacramento, CA 95818. For more information, call (916) 448-0811.
