Back by popular demand – and to the delight of history enthusiasts and foodies throughout the region – Friends of Sutter’s Fort is proud to present “Feast at the Fort” on Saturday evening, September 10, 2016. Coinciding with the city-wide “Farm-to-Fork” effort and after a one-year hiatus due to important restoration projects, this is the sixth year for this unique culinary event held at Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP). Tickets go on sale August 1 for the 2016 “Feast at the Fort” that is showcased by a delicious four-course dinner prepared by Sacramento’s top chefs amid a beautiful evening setting inside the historic walls of Sutter’s Fort SHP.  



For each Feast, a different food-focused theme is chosen for the event. In 2016, guests will delight in an exciting menu of history-inspired recipes that showcase a “barrel aged” focal point while also incorporating vibrant locally-sourced ingredients.

Sacramento Self-Help Housing presents 14th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake”

Sacramento Self-Help Housing, a charitable non-profit organization dedicated to the elimination of homelessness in our region, is proud to announce the 14th Annual “Let Them Eat Cake” event in celebration of Bastille Day at The Grand Ballroom (1215 J Street in Sacramento) on Thursday evening, July 14, 2016 from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Presented by the Sacramento County Board of Supervisor’s Office and longtime board member Patrick Kennedy, Supervisor, District 2, guests will indulge in a fun Bastille Day celebration showcasing outstanding local cuisine, wines and beverages, cake tasting, upbeat music and more. Guests will enjoy listening to the sounds of the multi-talented musician Gabe Dixon and music by popular local DJ Roderick Mar Carpio (from Le Twist) along with bidding on artwork created by some of the region’s most talented artists.

Midtown Farmers Market Expands With New Season Launch on 4/2!

The Midtown Business Association (MBA) is pleased to announce the incredibly popular Midtown Farmers Market is expanding a half-block to accommodate even more farmers, growers and vendors. Effective with the new season launch on April 2, 2016, the newly expanded Midtown Farmers Market will take place on 20th Street as usual but will soon extend from J Street to midway down K Street. Open year-round on Saturdays from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.,* the latest expansion will help alleviate a longstanding waiting list of interested farmers and growers by increasing the number of vendors from approximately 60 to up to 90 on any given week. Plus, the added space will provide the current market participants with room to grow while also allowing for a bigger area to support the wide variety of special events and activities planned for 2016.

Yolo County Receives USDA Grant to Increase Local Foods in School Cafeterias

The Yolo County Agriculture Department’s farm to school program is one of 74 projects, spanning 39 states, receiving support this year from the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Farm to School Program to better connect school cafeterias and students with local farmers and ranchers.  Yolo County’s project received a $93,500 grant which will impact 35,000 students in five Yolo County School districts, including Woodland, Esparto, Davis, West Sacramento and River Delta.
