Auto Museum Introduces New Interactive Programs and Enhancements for Kids, Teens and Adults

he California Automobile Museum is pleased to introduce a number of new interactive programs and exhibits of special appeal to children, teens and guests of all ages. The Museum recently launched a monthly reading program for young children, a distracted driving simulator for teens, and now has a dozen iPads available for guests of all ages to easily access additional content and information about exhibits on display. These exciting new programs and interactive features are all offered free with Museum admission.

In addition to its fascinating Gold Rush past, the Sacramento area is rich with an amazing array of state-of-the-art museums and historic sites that offer visitors the chance to explore California’s fine art, history, science, and wildlife treasures all year long. In December, many of the nearly 30 members of Sacramento Association of Museums (SAM) are featuring a number of holiday-related events and activities, a sampling of which includes the following:

Looking for something unique and memorable to do with friends and family this holiday season? Go underground!

Revealing what’s been hidden beneath the city for more than 150 years, ever-popular Old Sacramento Underground Tours give visitors the opportunity to discover the strange but true stories below historic buildings and sidewalks. Now wrapping up its seventh season, the tour allows guests to explore excavated foundations and enclosed pathways, while entertaining and knowledgeable tour guides recount the tales of the devastation, perseverance, and determination that led to California’s only successful street-raising project.

Holiday schedule:

- November 25, 26 & 27 (Thanksgiving weekend) on Friday & Saturday every half-hour from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m., noon, 12:30 p.m., 1:30 p.m., 2 p.m. & 3 p.m.

- On weekends December 3, 4, 10 & 11 at 11 a.m., 12:30 p.m. & 2 p.m.

It’s all aboard for a very special story time with ABC10’s Anchor/Reporter Mark S. Allen – who has been honored with three prestigious Emmy Awards -- on Monday, November 7, 2016. Beginning at 11 a.m., the popular TV personality will read the illustrated children’s book Pancake Express by Brandon James Scott. Afterward, Mark S. Allen will sign copies of the recently released 100 Things To Do in Sacramento Before You Die travel book published by Reedy Press that he compiled and authored. The new book highlights the California State Railroad Museum (along with many other destinations in Old Sacramento State Historic Park) and is available for purchase in the Museum store.

Railroad Museum foundation offers special THE POLAR EXPRESS™ train ride opportunity for non-profits

The California State Railroad Museum & Foundation are pleased to present a special opportunity for local non-profits that support or serve local children and families to enjoy a very special ride aboard THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride during a run-through rehearsal on Friday evening, November 18, 2016 at 5:30 p.m. With 150 seats available, the Foundation is accepting entries for the complimentary group experience now through October 17 at 4 p.m.

In 100 words or less (in PDF format), interested non-profit agencies simply need to provide background information about their organization and explain why the suggested beneficiaries should receive seats aboard the advance THE POLAR EXPRESS™ Train Ride experience.
