Midtown’s massive saber battle returns bigger and brighter

Science fiction fans in Sacramento won’t have to use a mystical force to have a good time when Saber Battle rolls through Midtown on Thursday night, May 4, 2017 from 8 to 10 p.m.

Massive fan-run events in cities from coast to coast have brought together generations of fans to participate in massive saber battles, watch swordplay masters show off expert moves, and dress up as their favorite sci-fi movie characters at a themed party in cities across North America. This May, the fun returns to Midtown Sacramento.   

In partnership with the Midtown Association and Visit Sacramento, the fan group Newmindspace aims to bring the fun and free community event, martial arts spectacle, and thousands of glowing sabers to fans of all ages. In December 2015, the group broke the world record for Largest Global Light Sword battle, and this spring aims even higher.

William Jessup University holding inaugural athletic fundraiser at Topgolf in Roseville

The Jessup Athletic Association will host the inaugural TopSwing event – a fun gathering, providing golf, games, food, beverages, prizes and awards – on Sunday, April 23 at Topgolf entertainment complex in Roseville.

TopSwing takes place from 4-8 p.m. and is a unique fundraising event for William Jessup University Athletics that is designed for both golfers and non-golfers. No golf skills are necessary.

TopSwing is open to the public for both sponsorship and participation. All proceeds raised at the event will go directly to support William Jessup University athletic programs with scholarships, improved team facilities, and help reduce student debt. The fundraiser at Topgolf will become a yearly event.

Sacramento music artist Quinn Hedges creates movie video; showcase latest album at Blue Oaks Theatre

Local Sacramento music artist Quinn Hedges will unveil his latest album in spectacular fashion. He and several collaborators created a dozen captivating videos that will be featured in a movie that coincides with the release of the album.

Hedges will showcase his new album – “Slightly South of Stormy Clouds” – on Thursday, March 23, 7 p.m. at Blue Oaks Center Theatre in Rocklin. The one-hour movie will include a video of all 12 songs on Hedges’ latest album.

The movie videos will be compiled in order to play the songs uninterrupted along with the album, reflecting Hedges’ vision of how the album was intended to be heard.  Hedges wrote all the songs on “Slightly South of Stormy Clouds,” a self-reflecting musical journey about life in transition.
