(Woodland, CA) – The following special programs will be held during the month of August at Yolo County’s Arthur F. Turner Community Library, located at 1212 Merkley Avenue in West Sacramento:

• August 2: Sports Arts and Crafts, 4:00 p.m. Children ages 6-12 and their parents or caregivers are invited to create mosaic art, flying paper Frisbees, stuffed paper footballs and more! All participants will be entered for a chance to win a prize in the Summer Reading Program.

• August 4: Zumba, 4:00 p.m. Ditch the workout routine and come join us for a calorie-burning, dance fitness party using a mixture of low-intensity and high-intensity moves.

• August 6: Special Tot Play Time, 12:00 p.m. During this month’s play time, designed for toddlers and their parents or caregivers, participants can enjoy toddler carnival games such as fishing, matching ducks and more. Expand your child’s imagination through play.

• August 9: Mini Golf at the Library, 4:00 p.m. Children, ages 6-12, and their parents or caregivers can play a six-hole mini golf course. All participants will be entered for a chance to win a prize in the Summer Reading Program when they complete the course.

• August 11: Mini Golf Competition, 4:00 p.m. Teens, ages 13-17, are welcome to play a fun eight-hole mini golf course. All participants will be entered for a chance to win a prize in the Summer Reading Program when they complete the course.

• August 11 and 25: All Things String, 6:00 p.m. Whether you knit, crochet, embroider or enjoy other fiber arts, this social crafting circle is for you. Bring your current project or start something new.

• August 15: End of Summer Reading Program Ice Cream Celebration, 4:00 p.m. Children, ages 6-12, and their parents or caregivers are invited to celebrate the end of the program with free ice cream. Summer Reading Program winners will also be announced.

• August 17: What’s Happening, Seniors?, 12:00 p.m. Are you looking to get together with active seniors and make new friends? Come share stories, learn from one another and find out ‘What’s Happening’ in West Sacramento and beyond.

• August 17: Evening Book Club, 6:00 p.m. Join us for a discussion of, Americanah by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. Books are collected and distributed at the meeting. Contact Cindy at (916) 731-5504 for more information.

• August 31: West Sacramento Friends of the Library Meeting, 6:30 p.m. This non-profit 501(c)(3) organization is dedicated to serving the West Sacramento community through supporting library programs and services, and welcomes new members.

The following ongoing programs continue in August:

• Russian Story Time: Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m.

• English Conversation Group: Wednesdays at 4:00 p.m. and Fridays at 10:00 a.m.

• Hora de Cuentos/Bilingual Spanish Story Time: Saturdays at 11:00 a.m.

NOTICES: The Summer Reading Program ends on August 15. There’s still time to sign up and receive a free gift at any of the Yolo County Library branches.
