Cache Creek Area Plan Update Kick-Off April 11
Cache Creek Area Plan Update Kick-Off April 11

(Woodland, CA) – To increase public awareness about the update of Yolo County’s Cache Creek Area Plan, an informational kick-off event is scheduled for Monday, April 11 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Cache Creek Nature Preserve, located at 34199 County Road 20 in Woodland.  Participants will have an opportunity to hear about and discuss the update of this plan which helps to set policy for and balance interests in a 14.5-mile stretch of Cache Creek.

For more than 20 years, and with the input of numerous stakeholder groups, advisory committees and the public, Yolo County has worked to identify an appropriate balance between aggregate mining, agricultural activities, flood control and riparian protection.  The result of this effort is the Cache Creek Area Plan, a scientifically based management plan that balances a diverse range of concerns with the overriding vision of enhancing the variety of resource needs for the region.  The Cache Creek Area Plan was adopted by the Yolo County Board of Supervisors in August of 1996, and subsequently ratified by the voters in November of that year.

The area covered by the plan spans approximately 14.5 miles along both banks of lower Cache Creek from the Capay Dam on the west to the town of Yolo near Interstate 5 on the east.  The program is administered by the Natural Resources Division of the Yolo County Administrator’s Office and is funded by fees voluntarily paid by the aggregate industry for each ton of aggregate sold.

Yolo County is required to conduct a limited update to the plan every ten years.  The purpose of the update is to allow for amendment of the plan as necessary, based on trend analyses in changes in creek conditions, new regulatory requirements and analysis of collected data.  Yolo County is currently in the midst of this update process.
