WEST SACRAMENTO, CA (AP) - A Northern California man has been sentenced to 830 years to life for sexually abusing a young girl over a period of nine years.

Bennie Dale Moses' sentence Monday follows the 44-year-old West Sacramento resident's conviction in March on 62 counts of sex and oral copulation with a child.

Yolo County District Attorney Jeff Reisig says Moses first forced the victim to have sex with him in 2000, when she was 12 years old. He says the abuse continued until 2009, when the girl confided in a friend who then called 911.

Reisig says the investigation into Moses' background revealed that as a teenager he had forced a number of elementary school girls to have sex with him.

In March, Yolo County Superior Court Judge Stephen Mock ruled that Moses had previously been convicted of 12 separate "strike" offenses.
