Cat set on fire in West Sacramento park
Crime

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - A cat was euthanized after she was intentionally set on fire Wednesday night.

Yolo County Animal Services responded to Circle Park near Circle Street around 11:15 p.m. after people walking nearby reported seeing a moving fire in the park, Yolo County sheriff's spokesperson Vicky Fletcher said.

The witnesses got closer and found a female short hair brown Tabby that was badly burned; they stayed with the cat until animal services arrived at the scene.

Fletcher said veterinarians with animal services were hoping the cat would be able to recover; however, the cat's pain was unmanageable and clinical signs showed that she would lose her limbs because of the extent of her burns.

Investigators believe the cat was doused with an accelerant then set on fire.

Anyone with information on the incident is urged to call Yolo County Sheriff's Department, Animal Services Section at (530) 668-5287 or West Sacramento Police Department at 916-617-4900.
