WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - A police pursuit involving a possible purse snatcher culminated in West Sacramento late Tuesday afternoon.

According to West Sacramento police Lt. Tod Sockman, the victim of a purse theft on Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights followed the suspected thief in a maroon Ford Expedition and reported the crime to emergency responders.

Sacramento County sheriff's deputies responded and tried to pull over the SUV on Madison Avenue in Citrus Heights, said California Hgihway Patrol spokeswoman Officer Lizz Dutton. The driver, though, didn't yield and drove off, according to deputies.

Deputies followed the SUV to West Sacramento where the pursuit ended at West Capitol Avenue and Cedar Street but not before the SUV clipped a van, said Sockman.

Viewer C.J. Katvala, who was driving behind the van,  said the SUV's driver appeared to oversteer coming out of the impact and struck dirt before coming to a stop.

Katvala described getting caught in the middle of the high speed pursuit as "horrifying" with a "gazillon" officers in cars and on motorcycles.

Sockamn said two in the SUV, the 20-year-old driver and a juvenile, were detained. Officers also found a gun in the vehicle.
