Sutter’s Fort Calls Out for Volunteers

Sutter’s Fort Calls Out for Volunteers

Do you have an interest in Sacramento’s early history? Do you get excited at the idea of recreating pioneer activities like churning butter, making barrels or dressing in period attire? If so, volunteering at Sacramento’s iconic Sutter’s Fort State Historic Park (SHP) may be just right for you. A new session of docent training classes will soon be available for those interested in helping to interpret pioneer California history to the public. To find out more information and meet current docents, a special Volunteer Open House is scheduled for Saturday, March 19, 2016 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Fort located at 2701 L Street in Sacramento.

Mental Health Service Act Community Planning in March

Mental Health Service Act Community Planning in March

The community is invited to attend the Yolo County Mental Health Service Act Quarterly Stakeholder Meeting on March 1 to kick-off the community planning process for fiscal year 2016-17, and additional community input meetings on March 9.

The Mental Health Services Act (known as MHSA or Proposition 63, and passed by California voters in 2004) places a 1% tax on personal income in excess of $1 million.  This tax revenue is directed specifically to improving mental health treatment.  The funds are distributed to California counties with the goal of transforming the public mental health system into one that is consumer- and family-driven, accessible to underserved populations, oriented toward the principles of recovery, culturally aware and which provides appropriate services.
