Yolo Broadband Strategic Plan – We want to hear from you!

As part of a countywide strategic planning initiative to formulate a long term sustainable broadband plan, the Yolo Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCo) is seeking feedback from Yolo County businesses and residents concerning their broadband needs and services via a survey posted on www.yolocounty.org.

As more of our daily lives are carried out online, access to affordable and reliable broadband Internet service is important to the future of the Yolo County community.  The countywide region (including the cities of Davis, West Sacramento, Winters and Woodland, and all the unincorporated communities and rural areas within Yolo County) is embarking on a collaborative broadband Internet planning study to determine how to best ensure that Yolo County businesses, residents and community anchors have access to affordable, reliable broadband Internet service that will meet their long-term needs.

Celebrate America Recycles Day by Recycling Your Used Oil Filters

On Saturday, November 16, the Yolo County Department of Planning & Public Works’ Division of Integrated Waste Management and the cities of Davis, Woodland, West Sacramento and Winters will host a free Used Oil Filter Exchange Event, joining thousands of local organizers holding recycling events across the country to celebrate America Recycles Day, the only nationally recognized day dedicated to promoting and celebrating recycling in the United States.

With the help of O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone stores throughout Yolo County, and the NAPA Auto Parts store in Winters, local government recycling coordinators are partnering to remind do-it-yourself vehicle oil changers of the importance of recycling by hosting the November 16 used oil filter exchange event.  Residents of Yolo County can receive a free oil filter by bringing in their used one for recycling.  There is a limit of two filters per resident that can be exchanged.

Help on the way for West Sacramento homebrewers

Help on the way for West Sacramento homebrewers

WEST SACRAMENTO – One of the bastions of homebrewers in Folsom and Roseville is coming to West Sacramento.

The Brewmeister is set to open a new location in West Sac in early 2014, according to an email from owner Erik Schmid.

Founded in 1991, the Brewmeister opened a second location in Roseville a couple years ago, to cater to the needs of a growing number of local brewing enthusiasts.

Schmid hopes the new location will reduce the wear and tear on brewers nearer the downtown area. “We want to thank all of you for your patronage, and especially those who travel from West Sac, Natomas, Davis and further, to get to us, we hope you find the new location convenient.”

No opening date or specific location was announced for the third Brewmeister location.

Request for Ideas for Future Uses of the Yolo County Courthouse

Yolo County has issued a Request for Ideas in an effort to solicit creative input regarding the future use of the Yolo County Courthouse.  When the Yolo Superior Court completes the construction of their new facility in 2015, the existing building and property will revert to the county for its use upon the court’s departure.  The Board of Supervisors recognizes this as an opportunity to consider alternative and innovative approaches to the reuse of the facility.
