Free Oil Filter Exchange Event November 21

Free Oil Filter Exchange Event November 21

The Yolo County Division of Integrated Waste Management and the Cities of Davis, Woodland, Winters and West Sacramento have collaborated with O’Reilly Auto Parts and AutoZone Auto Parts stores, as well as Pisani’s Napa Auto Parts Store in Winters, to educate Yolo County residents on the importance of used oil filter recycling by offering a Used Oil Filter Exchange Event on Saturday, November 21.

This special event is being held to bring awareness around the need to recycle used oil filters.  Do-it-yourself (DIY) oil changers in California purchase more than 20 million oil filters annually.  Unfortunately, less than 10 percent of used oil filters are recycled or even disposed of properly.  This means that an estimated 1.2 million gallons of oil in discarded oil filters goes to landfills each year.  When used oil filters are recycled, the filters and the oil they contain can be made into new products such as construction rebar and re-refined oil.

Property Tax Delinquent if Not Paid By December 10

Property Tax Delinquent if Not Paid By December 10

Yolo County Tax Collector Howard Newens reminds taxpayers who own property in Yolo County that the first installment of 2015-16 Secured Property Tax, due November 1, 2015, will be delinquent if not paid by December 10, 2015.

To avoid a penalty, property taxes must be paid by 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 10, 2015, after which a 10 percent penalty must be added.  Envelopes must be postmarked no later than December 10, 2015 if taxes are paid by mail.  It is suggested that payments be mailed a few days before the December 10 deadline to ensure that the envelope will have the proper postmark.  The only acceptable postmark for deadline payments is a U.S. Postal Service postmark.

Current law does not relieve property owners of payment responsibility or the imposition of penalties because of failure to receive a tax bill.
