Free tax assistance in Winters on April 7

Assemblymember Mariko Yamada will host a FREE Tax Assistance Workshop on April 7 at the Winters Community Library providing eligible workers a final opportunity to receive help filing their tax returns before the April 17 deadline. Yamada is sponsoring this event through partnerships with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS), Yolo County Library, Yolo Family Resource Center and Hermanos Macehual of UC Davis.

“With tax day looming, the IRS and our partners are eager to host this free event – especially for the workers in the rural areas of Yolo County,” Yamada said. “Our goal is to ensure that every family has the opportunity to claim all the tax credits for which they are eligible, not leaving a single penny on the table.”...

Mega Millions Lottery Winning Ticket Purchased in Arden

Mega Millions Lottery Winning Ticket Purchased in Arden

Mega Million mania is reaching astronomical heights, with this Friday's jackpot set for an all time record high of $500 million.

In the meantime, though there was no big winner in last night's drawing, nine players did manage to match five out of six of the numbers.

Those winning tickets are worth $308,573 each, and one of those winners bought the ticket right here in Arden.

That's right!

Tuesday's lottery winner bought the winning ticket at Arco ampm, which is located at the corner of Alta Arden and Watt Avenue.

Perhaps Friday's Mega Million Lottery will spotlight another Sacramento resident.

We'll let you know this weekend!!

A+ Customer Service At Macy's Downtown Sacramento

A+ Customer Service At Macy's Downtown Sacramento

Sacramento -- As a woman who loves to shop, I often experience less than enthusiastic sales people -- especially during a holiday sale! That's why the effort by an executive at Macy's in downtown Sacramento deserves my thanks for going the extra mile to help me during the recent Presidents' Day Sale. When an advertised toaster oven resulted in a sell-out, Macy's executive "Rob" promised to contact other Macy store locations to, hopefully, find this toaster oven at a generously-discounted price. I told Rob my old toaster oven (a wedding gift in 1974) is "sparking" while in use. Clearly, I need a new toaster oven before my garlic bread turns into a camp fire. Even though Rob promised to find me the advertised toaster oven, I assumed that once I'm out of sight that I'd also be out of Rob's mind. Two days later, Rob called saying he located the out-of-stock toaster oven! Amazingly, Rob wants me to be a happy Macy's shopper. He succeeded.

$35,000 Donation and Volunteers Honor Local Veterans with a Much-Needed, Single-Day VFW Hall Renovation

The Fair Oaks Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) facility will be the site of more than $35,000 in donated and much needed renovations on Wednesday, February 22nd, in an all-day volunteer work-a-thon.

Three of Sacramento's Home Depot stores (which provided the grant) along with their managers and employees will join with the nonprofit organization Rebuilding Together and nearly a dozen local building and home improvement companies for the remodeling blitz. Many of the VFW post's military veterans will join the contractors as they replace sheetrock, texture and paint, upgrade restrooms to ADA compliance, replace doors with new fire-compliant emergency exits, install new exterior fencing and much more.

Where's the Relief?

Where's the Relief?

By now, we’ve all heard the news, “CA and NY have joined the multi-state mortgage settlement.” As a real estate and mortgage professional, I did (legal) loan modifications for nearly four years and I can assure you, California joining this lawsuit will do little to help California home owners struggling to keep their homes.

Let’s look at the facts, the most important one being that CA has six out of the top ten cities in the nation hardest hit by declining home values (Modesto (4), Merced (5), Stockton (7), Riverside (8), Bakersfield (9), and Vallejo/Fairfield (10), with many of them 30-50% underwater.

The bottom line is this, a $20,000 principal forgiveness is not nearly enough to help balance out the numbers from underwater to break-even.
