2015 “Calling All Dreamers” Winner Allspicery to Officially Open Storefront 4/6!

The winner of the 2015 Calling All Dreamers competition presented by the Downtown Sacramento Foundation (DSF) will officially open a downtown “Allspicery” storefront on Wednesday, April 6, 2016. Owner Heather Wong of Allspicery is set to open the first one-stop spice shop of its kind in Sacramento located at 1125 11th Street.

Centrally located in the downtown core and easily walkable from the State Capitol and surrounding businesses, Allspicery will offer a curated selection of spices, salts, teas, and proprietary house-made spice blends sourced from around the world. The unique shop will feature commonplace spices as well as obscure, hard-to-find ingredients. Store guests will be treated to a sensory experience when they visit the new store as they will have the opportunity to smell various spice samples and taste spices blended in oil to bring out their unique and provocative flavors. Spices will be sold whole or freshly ground in-house, making the shop a veritable candy store for foodies.

“With all the amazing energy and momentum centered in the downtown core, we’re thrilled Allspicery will open a storefront during this exciting time for Sacramento,” said Valerie Mamone-Werder, Downtown Sacramento Partnership (DSP) Senior Manager of Business Development. “We hope this new store opening will inspire and encourage other entrepreneurs to develop and enter their innovative business concepts in the Calling All Dreamers competition that happens each year.”

The application deadline for the 2016 competition has now closed and 35 applications were submitted. After a review process and public voting period, the 4th Annual Calling All Dreamers winner will be announced in June 2016.

Each year, Calling All Dreamers contestants compete for a coveted business start-up package that is designed to provide the winner with essential resources and helpful tools needed to successfully launch a downtown storefront. In addition, DSF helps the winning entrepreneur navigate a variety of challenges faced by many business owners during their first year in business.

Economic development and small business growth is a top priority for the Downtown Sacramento Partnership, a Property Based Improvement District (PBID) focused on downtown Sacramento and sister organization to the DSF. Since the annual Calling All Dreamers competition launched in 2013, DSF has helped 12 new businesses open in downtown Sacramento. In addition to Allspicery, some of the contestants of the annual Calling All Dreamers competition include the following: Andy’s Candy Apothecary, The Dailey Method, Ana Apple, Sun & Soil, Off the Chain Bike Bus Tours, Metro Juice, and Benjamin’s Shoes. To date, these locally owned businesses have leased more than 14,000 sf of retail space and created a minimum of 10 full-time and 35-part-time jobs.

The 2016 Calling All Dreamers competition is made possible by the generous support of the following sponsors who continue to be champions for the economic growth of the Downtown core and the Sacramento region: The City of Sacramento Economic Development Department; MeringCarson; Consolidated Communications; Blanket Marketing; LJ2; Wells Fargo; Market One Builders; Smith, Mc Dowell & Powell, A Law Corporation; BFBA; POS Portal; Colliers; T-Rock Communications; and Inside Publications.
