Grand Gateway Project begins in Washington District

The City of West Sacramento has begun construction of the Grand Gateway and Washington District Infrastructure Project. The project will create a Grand Gateway entrance to the City core where the Bridge District, Washington District and Downtown converge; add and replace more than 10,000 lineal feet of storm drain, water and sewer mains to facilitate development; improve transportation to better accommodate transit, bicycles, pedestrians and automobiles.

Grand Gateway

  • New 7th Street Segment (West Capitol Avenue to Tower Bridge Gateway)
  • New traffic signal Tower Bridge Gateway – 7th Street intersection
  • New Transit / Streetcar Stop on westbound Tower Bridge Gateway
  • Signal removal and modification at West Capitol Avenue & 5th Street intersection
  • Two-way separated bicycle path along West Capitol Avenue (Grand Street to 5th Street)
  • Convert West Capitol Avenue auto segment to one-way (eastbound) for traffic

Washington District

  • Wider sidewalks, street lights, landscaping, way-finding and public art on E Street (5th Street to 3rd Street)
  • Bike lanes, wider sidewalks, street lights and landscaping on F Street (5th Street to 3rd Street)
  • Road resurfacing along 5th Street
  • Add 3,200 LF of water mains
  • Replace 3,200 LF of storm drain
  • Replace 5,500 LF of sewer mains

Residents and businesses should expect minor travel delays and plan accordingly.  Please take caution when driving and walking around the construction area.

Construction is estimated to be complete in March 2019.
