West Sacramento man arrested after SWAT surrounds home

WEST SACRAMENTO, CA - West Sacramento police arrested a man suspected of assaulting a woman and barracking himself in his apartment.

Jayson Gibbs, 30, of West Sacramento, was arrested after SWAT Teams surrounded his apartment and a Davis Hostage Negotiation Team convinced him to surrender peacefully.

Lt. Tod Sockman said Gibbs apparently ran out of his apartment and attacked a woman walking with her two children on Michigan Avenue about 2:50 p.m. Gibbs ran into the apartment when witnesses tried to intervene, Sockman said.

The 33-year-old woman received head and upper body injuries, Sockman said. Her condition was not known, nor was the reason for the assault.

The children were not hurt.

Sockman said Gibbs has a "history of violence."

People living within 100 feet of Gibbs apartment were asked to leave for their safety, Sockman said.

Gibbs is being held at Yolo County Jail.

Michigan Avenue is between Maple and Walnut streets.
