Relocation of active aging programs postponed

"Due to construction delays for the new Community Center we have had some changes in our projected program start date," said Christine Prater in the West Sacramento Parks & Recreation newsletter. Prater is Recreation Supervisor, Active Aging & Adaptive Recreation.  "What we are anticipating is that sometime in February 2011 we will be moving into our fabulous new Community Center, located at 1075 West Capitol Ave." Prater said all services and programs associated with Active Aging will be provided from the new location at that time, pending Community Center completion.  "Until then, all programs will remain at 664 Cummins Way. Our phone number will remain the same: 373-5819."

West Sacramento Active Aging is a program serving the West Sacramento 50 + population. It has been providing information & referral services, and entertainment to older adults for over 25 years, said Prater.  Opportunities include: fitness, information and assistance, leisure activities, trips, events and opportunities to visit and socialize with other peers, she said.

"Registration will also remain as usual, until we move to the new location," she explained.  Starting this month, preregistration for Active Aging programs is being taken on Mondays at the Senior Center, 664 Cummins Way, from 9 a.m. to 1p.m.

If you would like to preregister for your favorite programs, you will need to fill out the waiver contained within the newsletter, available at the senior center, and bring it during the specified preregistration hours.  Sometime in February, when the Community Center opens, there will be two registration options. Option (1): Registration will be taken from the Parks and Recreation counter located within the Community Center @ 1075 West Capitol Ave. or Registration option (2): Registration will be open online at www.westsacfun.org.

"If you need additional assistance with registration during this change, please feel free to call 373-5819 and we will arrange a personal registration appointment to assist you," Prater said.  "West Sacramento Active Aging Programs would like our Active Aging community to know that we are dedicated to making our future transition to the Community Center as easy as possible."
