Photo exhibit spotlights West Sac athletes

A photo exhibit of some of West Sacramento's outstanding athletes will be displayed

When:  Beginning Jan. 20 at 5pm
Where: Parks and Recreation Center
             2801 Jefferson Blvd.

The photo collection dates range from the 1940s and to the 2010s.  The display focuses on West Sacramento athletes who were born here or have resided in the community. Each photo has the name and background information of each athlete, including professional or amateur record.  All the photos received will be displayed on a rotating basis.  There will be approximately 18 photographs on display and each photograph is about 2.5 x 3.5 feet in size.

The project is in partnership with the City of West Sacramento's Parks and Recreation Department, the West Sacramento Historical Society and the Photo Documentation Project.  The project took about one year to complete and the intent is to present these photographs from a historical perspective.

Many of those who responded to requests for photos were professional or amateur boxers.  The Bryte and Broderick community has produced some of the finest fighters of the last 60 years with some becoming world champions in their respective
weight divisions.

It is hoped that this exhibit portrays the athlete in a positive manner and as a role model in our society.  The power of sports can motivate one to excel and be used to improve the public well-being.
